British powerhouse Adele has cancelled the remaining dates on her North American tour due to her ongoing battle with laryngitis.
Earlier this week, Adele was forced to postpone dates on her sold-out tour of the US and Canada after losing her signature pipes to an infection The “Rolling in the Deep” hitmaker was first diagnosed by doctors last month. Their advice? Bed rest. Adele postponed that night’s engagement in Minneapolis, but decided to perform an evening set in Denver, Colorado. Yeah — that didn’t go so well. The star’s condition quickly worsened, prompting her to pull out of a show in Salt Lake City on May 29 before postponing gigs in Vancouver, Seattle, and Portland.
She was intent on resuming her tour in San Francisco on Saturday before learning of the severity of her condition. Now Adele and her tour have been sidelined indefinitely.
On Thursday, Adele, 23, met with a Los Angeles otolaryngology specialist who determined “it was imperative that she take the next few weeks to recover with absolute voice rest.”
“I’m really frustrated,” she says in a statement from Columbia Records. “I was hoping with a week’s rest I’d be better to sing again straight away. However there is absolutely nothing I can do but take the doctor’s advice and rest some more. I’m so sorry. See you soon, love Adele”
