Jonathan Rhys Meyers Suicide Attempt

More trouble for alcoholic actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers: The Tudors star, 33, was hospitalized in London this week after a possible suicide attempt. According to tipsters for Britain’s The Sun, Meyers was found slumped on the floor of his London home by paramedics on Tuesday night after he tried to take his own life with an overdose of pills.

Police had to be called when Meyers refused treatment for more than 30 minutes.

“We can confirm we were called by the London Ambulance Service to an address in NW8 to report to a man refusing treatment. Police attended, and the man was taken by ambulance to a central London hospital. That was the end of our involvement,” a Scotland Yard spokesman tells PEOPLE.

Jonathan was released from the hospital early Wednesday. Reporters for The Sun were there as Meyers exited and asked how he was. The actor replied with a terse: “No comment.”

In May 2010, the Irish actor, famous for his role on the Showtime period drama , was kicked off a United Airlines flight leaving from New York’s JFK Airport after he hurled the N-word at a company employee in a drunken tirade. Jonathan returned to London a short time later, where he received treatment for alcoholism for a fourth time.
