Former Newlywed star Nick Lachey is a newlywed once more. Go figure. The onetime boy bander married teen beauty queen-turned-MTV VJ Vanessa Minnillo in a tropical island ceremony on Friday evening.
The couple — who briefly split in 2009 before announcing their engagement last year — managed to keep the details surrounding their wedding a secret, even from their 35 guests.
“Nobody knew where they were going,” Vanessa tells PEOPLE.
Nick notes that they gave guests wedding invitations “in the form of a plane ticket” to Necker Island, the British Virgin Island owned by Virgin mogul Richard Branson.
“For us, this is just a stepping stone to do what we ultimately want and that’s to start a family together,” the bride and newly named host of ABC’s Wipeout said.
Nick donned a Dolce & Gabbana suit for the nups, while Minnillo selected a lace Monique Lhuillierr detailed gown for the occasion.
The couple taped their ceremony for a reality TV special; Nick & Vanessa’s Dream Wedding will air on TLC on July 30 at 9 PM ET/PT. The marriage is the first for Vanessa and the second for Nick, who was married to his former Newlyweds co-star Jessica Simpson from 2002 to 2006. Coincidentally, Simpson is set to remarry too; she’s engaged to former NFL player Eric Johnson.
