That was quick! Enrique Iglesias has abruptly pulled out of Britney Spears’ North American summer tour, mere hours after the trek was formally announced by the pop tart herself during an AM concert on Good Morning America.
“I’m going on tour with Enrique Iglesias in June,” Spears told co-anchor Robin Roberts in an interview backstage.
Spears’s seventh studio album, Femme Fatale, was released worldwide on Tuesday and the Spanish-born crooner had been slated to perform on the bill with the “(You Drive Me) Crazy” star, despite reports that he is in talks to share co-hosting duties with Nicole Scherzinger on the upcoming FOX talent show The X Factor.
Plans were reportedly scrapped because Iglesias, who is currently touring Europe promoting his Euphoria disc, would be much more than a supporting act on the bill, making the shows too expensive to produce in such a tough economy. Could the rumored X Factor deal have anything to do with Enrique’s unceremonious exit? So far, Live Nation, who will be promoting the shows, isn’t commenting on the Iglesias Affair, but we’ll keep you posted.
The 26-date tour kicks off in Sacramento on June 17.
